Christ the King Novena begins November 11

On the last Sunday of each liturgical year, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, or Christ the King. Pope Pius XI instituted this feast in 1925 to respond to growing secularism and atheism. He recognized that attempting to “thrust Jesus Christ and his holy law” out of public life would result in continuing discord among people and nations.

This solemnity reminds us that while governments come and go, Christ reigns as King forever. I ask you to participate in a nine-day novena, November 11-19, by offering our prayers to Christ the King. Booklets with the novena prayers are forthcoming and will be in the narthex. On Friday, November 11 we will kick off the Novena with a potluck at 5:30 pm and Vespers at 6:30 pm (note the time, 1-1/2 hours later than usual). I ask each of you to pray the Novena at home on the nine days, along with your nightly decade of the Rosary. Let us pray for one another.

We will have dinner before Vespers at 5:30 pm. Please review the available slots on the Sign Up Genius and click on the button to sign up if you would like to join us. Thank you!!
