Baptism

Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons and daughters of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and are sharers in her mission: Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1213).

St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church celebrates Baptisms on Sundays at 1:30 pm at the Church. All paperwork must be returned to the parish office, and parents must have attended a Baptismal preparation class prior to scheduling the Baptism.

If you are an adult seeking the Sacrament of Baptism, please visit our RCIA page, and contact the Religious Education Office at [email protected].

INFANT BAPTISMAL PARENT PREPARATION PROCESS

Step 1: You must be a registered parishioner at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. If you need to register, please click on the Parish Registration link on our website toolbar for the new parishioner registration form.

Step 2: Submit a Baptismal Registration form to the parish office.

Step 3: Select Godparents, and obtain a signed Sponsor form for each Godparent and return to the office. Parents must provide sponsor forms for each Catholic Godparent. At least one Godparent MUST be a practicing Catholic, up-to-date on all his/her sacraments, at least 16 years of age, attends Mass weekly, if married, must be married in the Catholic Church. The Godparent should contact the church where he/she is currently registered to have the Sponsor form signed and sealed. If a Christian Witness is chosen to participate in and witness the Baptism, they must fill out the Christian Witness form and provide proof of their Baptism. Fr. Gould requires two sponsors, one must be male, the other female. Please note, a lapsed Catholic cannot serve as either a Godparent or a Christian witness.

Step 4: Register for and attend the Baptismal preparation class. Email or call the parish office to register for the class. Those who have attended a Baptism class within the last five years do not have to attend the class again.

Step 5: Once all forms are received by the parish office, a date for your child’s Baptism can be scheduled with our office manager, Leslie Sheldon by emailing [email protected] or calling 540-338-6381.
