Upcoming Adult Study Groups

The Gospel of John: 10 sessions

What better way to start the new school year than making time in your schedule to be fed, strengthened and inspired by God’s holy word. All adults are welcome to join this penetrating study of the Gospel of John. If you missed the first part of this study, held last spring, please feel welcome to still attend this study group if you are interested. Everyone is encouraged to read or reread the first 11 chapters before the first class where we will review much of what we discovered last spring. We will continue using the St. Ignatius study guide which provides the biblical text of the gospel and ample notes at the bottom of each page for better understanding and fresh insights by renowned Bible teachers Scott Hahn and Curtis Mitch, as well as time-tested interpretations from the Fathers of the Church. These helpful study notes provide rich historical, cultural, and theological information providing us with a lot to discuss. During this study we will practice Lectio divina (literally, “holy reading”), prayerfully reading the Gospel while remaining open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, in order to arrive at the spiritual messages they contain for each of us. This is a 10 week study meeting on Monday mornings from 10-11:30 beginning on Monday, September 23. Please contact Jeanne [email protected] to register and for information to purchase the study guide.

The Mystery of God: 7 Sessions

Atheism is on the rise. How can we turn the tide of secularism and draw people back to God?  Skeptical thinkers vigorously attack belief in God as irrational or, even worse, dangerous. The so-called New Atheism has attracted millions of young people. For many Catholics this is heartbreaking to witness. Bishop Barron has given us a study, written together with Trent Horn, to draw us closer to God and to encourage millions of skeptical thinkers to turn back to God and back to the Catholic faith. You are invited to join this study if you have a desire to strengthen your own faith or want to find answers and hope for loved ones who have left the church and no longer believe in God. This study will be helpful to anyone whose faith is under attack and feel themselves being led into the secular world view of hopelessness. Join us and be encouraged by others who are also hoping to understand and defend who God is and  why He matters. The study guide will provide detailed commentary on a 20 min film viewed during each class as well as references to Scripture, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. This is a 7 week study meeting on Friday mornings from 10-11:30 beginning on September 27. Please contact Jeanne at [email protected] to register and for information to purchase the study guide we will be using.
